A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition earlier this month has shown that reducing fat intake combined with an increased fruit and vegetable intake has greater weight-loss benefits than simply reducing fat intake alone. This study also found that the group who reduced their fat intake as well as increased their intake of fruits and vegetables reported less hunger than the group who simply reduced their fat intake.

Exercise and weight loss reduces insulin resistance!
A study published in Diabetes has shown that regular, moderate-intensity exercise improves the functional capacity of skeletal muscle. One of the functional capacities is insulin sensitivity. By improving insulin sensitivity, blood glucose and insulin stays stable, which assists the fat-burning process in the body. The study also showed that mitochondrial content increased. Mitochondria are the ‘engines’ of muscle tissue where all the fuel is burnt including, body fat. Therefore, more mitochondria means greater fat burning! Just another reason to get out there and start pounding the pavement!
